The gastronomy and cuisine of Pelion and Volos will take the leading role on U.S. television this year.
The areas will be featured on “The Cooking Odyssey” a cooking show focusing on the Mediterranean and broadcast on the public tv networks of PBS and Create TV, reaching millions of viewers throughout the U.S.
Filming for the episode dedicated to Pelion and Volos took place in April, 2017 at various locations throughout the area, arranged by the hotel management company, “Spyrou Philoxenia”. The live shows took place at restaurants, hotels, and private villas including Kritsa Gastronomy Hotel in Portaria, for Iris Guesthouse in Tsagarada, Aleka’s House in Tsagarada, Villa Alkistis Myth & Magic in Aghios Georgios Nileias, and Lepi in Volos. In addition to cooking, the episode also featured the numerous outdoor activities the area is known for such as hiking and horseback riding and cultural highlights visiting churches and museums.
“I am very happy to have assisted in helping to bring awareness to the exquisite gastronomy of Volos and Pelion to the U.S. market”, stated John Grigoras – Deputy Manager – Sales & Marketing – Spyrou Philoxenia. “I believe the region has one of the top cuisines in the Mediterranean. In addition to traditional dishes made from the freshest local ingredients, visitors and locals spend hours enjoying mouth-watering “mezedes” (Greek version of tapas) and traditional pomace brandy found in the numerous “Tsipouradika” taverns found throughout the area, rivaling the tapas culture famous throughout Spain” he added. With many of our affiliate hotel members in the area, potential visitors need to know that they can expect a lot more than the natural beauty, forest-covered mountains, hiking paths, outdoor activities, and crystal blue beaches the area is currently known for, they can expect only the best in Greek food and drink” he ended.
The particular episode of “The Cooking Odyssey” highlighting Pelion and Volos will be aired with multiple repeats in the 2017 season in addition to rebroadcasts over the next three years. The public broadcast networks of PBS and Create TV reach millions of American households and garner one of the highest primetime audience percentages.
